Virtual Girls Day In With Tik Tok & The Don't Rush Challenge

Sharing is caring!

Making the best of quarantine at home hair

I’m supporting my local hairstylist community by showing my roots! No at-home box-coloring here. These roots belong to All Hair By Destiny, and she’ll fix me up when we can safely make it back to her chair.

Lucky for me, my touchups are to cover my natural mousy-brown roots with a much darker blue-black hue. I like the thickness and shine dark colors add to my hair.

Fingers crossed, I’ve yet to have to fight pesky gray hair. Although that could all change, depending on how long we’re quarantined and tucked away at home!

A virtual girls night out— creating fun memories together while apart

My daughter and one of my two besties are both hairstylists, so you know we had to take part in the #DontRushChallenge. True to Tik Tok challenge form (Are you following me on Tik Tok? My account is new and quarantine created!), this challenge was super fun and made for the perfect socially distanced situation. (I love the creativity and ingenuity that results in adaptability!)

In case you need to get caught up on how to execute this challenge because you’re one of the moms making a video, like me (cool mom, though). To make a Don’t Rush Tok Tok, you’ll only need a few friends that can film without you, separate in their own homes, coupled with really-bad hair and the ability to make your hair look better for a second video!

Easy-peasy, right? Most of us made our two videos on two separate days— bad hair day and good hair day!

Quarantine hair, don’t care!

Our group consisted of my two besties, two of our daughters and me. Missing in the film was my best friend, Teresa’s daughter, who just gave birth to Teresa’s first grandchild! Also missing, Nikki’s younger daughter who is an essential worker making sure families in our community eat every day. We sincerely thank her for her service.

For the challenge, we each created two videos without sound. A before video, the way we would look on a typical day sheltered in place at home, most importantly with PJs or a robe and bed-head. Scarves and bonnets were a bonus!

Then we each filmed a selfie video with our hair all-did!

Pro tip: I film all my selfie videos in Snapchat— even if I’m only posting the video to Instagram. I’ve found that Snapchat has the best vertical camera for social media filming, along with the best filters! For more on Snapchat and other influencer recommended apps, check out this post HERE.

Lastly, we all sent our videos to one person in the group, and she edited them all into one and added the song, Don’t Rush by Young T & Bugsey. This song is necessary for the challenge. You can also find it on Tok Tok.

Since each of us in our group all have various hair types, I thought I’d also share what products we’re using at home to maintain our lovely coils and locks until we can get back into our stylists’ chairs.
