What is BLM?
As we arrived at the Black Lives Matter peaceful protest, there were already thousands of people, mostly White and many Black. All gathered in one location in the middle of a global pandemic.
A middle-aged White woman with a BLM protest sign stopped my young adult Black daughter and her Black boyfriend. The woman didn’t want to talk about health concerns or social distancing.
She wanted to thank them.
She said this movement is theirs, and they are changing the world in a way her generation wasn’t able to.
You are our ancestors’ wildest dreams— the definition of BLM.
George Floyd’s death is the case that has made activists out of active citizens
How long will White people keep trying to justify the murder of Black people?
The BLM movement has become one of the most important social justice movements. This is evident by the demonstrations, protests and protestors that keep popping up everywhere to highlight the injustices of Black people in America.
A new type of protest art has emerged called “BLM Protest Signs.” The idea behind it is simple: Black people are human beings too and deserve the same respect as any other person on Earth.
“Yes, all lives matter, but we’re focused on Black ones now, OK? Because it’s very apparent that our judicial system doesn’t know that. Plus, if you can’t see why I’m exclaiming Black Lives Matter, then you are part of the problem.”

3. Choose a poster board or square or rectangle piece of cardboard to write your saying. I cut out the bottom of a box to create my protest sign.
4. Use markers (Thick Sharpie markers work best) to write out your message. Paint is also good to use. You can even paint your poster board or cardboard to change the color entirely, let it dry, and then paint your BLM message.
5. PVC pipe and wood paint stir sticks make for a great sign handle. You can fasten these to the back of your protest sign with duct tape.
Pro tip: When adding a handle to your sign, it’s most functional when your protest sign is sturdy like cardboard. Posterboard may have to be cut down to proportion to the handle or even attached as a vertical/portrait view. It’s essential to decide on your sign layout and if it will have a handle first before writing your slogan.

Ever wonder what the signs at a BLM protest say? What are they trying to tell us?
In this article, I will discuss the power of Black Lives Matter protest signs. BLM protest signs were first used by Black Lives Matter protesters who wanted to raise awareness about police brutality and other injustices that happen against Black communities in America.
When did the BLM movement first start?
The protest signs have become symbols for the BLM movement, which emerged in July 2013, after 17-year old Trayvon Martin was heinously shot and killed for no reason at the hands of a white man. BLM began with the social media hashtag #BlackLivesMatter after Trayvon’s murderer was unjustly acquitted.
BLM protest signs are a powerful way to show your support for the movement. An effective way to spread awareness and make a statement about how you feel about this issue in our society today.
There are many different types of signs, and they all have a specific purpose.
For example, some protest signs voice an opinion on social injustices, while others show solidarity with those who police shootings have killed.
Who do you call when the murderer wears a badge?
“We’re not asking you to shoot them like you shoot us. We’re asking you not to shoot us like you don’t shoot them!” — Steve Harvey
A message to police officers everywhere: Stop killing Black people! Black Lives Matter.
When the murderer wears a badge, it’s time to stand up in solidarity and call for an end to police violence, brutality and systemic racism.
That’s the message of Black Lives Matter. It’s more than a hashtag. The message is clear: “We are human beings too.”
A Black life is a human life. Stop killing our Black men and Black women.

BLM protestors, you are the future that woke us up.
You are the change we’ve been waiting for. You are accomplishing in days what generations have worked tirelessly for over many years.
A moment is feelings. A movement is actions.
You are the BLM movement. The actions this world has been waiting for.
You.
The most significant contribution you could ever offer to the BLM cause is yourself.
It was almost unbelievable to see a varied range of people from different backgrounds stepping up and speaking out for absolute human rights of Black people.
So many generations and nationalities overjoy my heart— especially young people, especially White people, finally standing up for what’s humane, what’s fundamentally right!
Forever ingrained in my memory is the powerful message we shouted that shut down roads and highways, and brought oncoming traffic to a stop. “Black Lives Matter!”
In its inception in 2013, the statement Black Lives Matter became a public enemy. A phrase other races decided not to understand was vilified.
Unjustly menaced, Black Lives Matter does not alienate anyone; its purpose is to include us, the Black community!
Why did it take yet another heinous murder of a Black person to understand that, yes— we are human and we feel pain too?
Why is Black History Month in February?
Every day is a good day to get educated about the past, present and future of Black people and Black history. January is a great month. March is also great. And February is special.
February is Black History Month in the United States. Dr. Carter G. Woodson created it to bring recognition to African-Americans’ contributions to American history and culture.
Black History Month is a time to celebrate the accomplishments of Black people.
It started as Negro History Week by Dr. Woodson in 1926, who decided that it would be necessary for Americans and students all over America to know about African American history and contributions.
He wanted this because he felt like many textbooks minimized or ignored these stories from the past.
The ignorance of so many still has us protesting today.
“Just because we’re magic, does not mean we’re not real.” —Jesse Williams
Today, BLM is synonymous with the names of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, among many more Black lives senselessly lost.
When we lost Breonna and Ahmaud at the hands of law enforcement and police vigilantes, it wasn’t even national news for months!

What are you if you ignore the pain and suffering of others?
What side of history will you be on?
We need to hold our elected officials in Washington accountable to these questions.
These three words, Black Lives Matter are as powerful as initially intended and finally embraced as a protest for inclusion.
We will continue to protest BLM “Until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.” ― Dr. Martin Luther King Jr
George Floyd’s legacy spans across the globe. And even two weeks after his egregious murder, there are no signs of the movement letting up. I’ve participated in marches where sometimes the BLM protest and rally cry was led triumphantly by White activists.
Power to the people
People don’t care if you’re angry. They care if you’re making change.
Change is shouting and in motion because we speak. Collective hearts are demonstrating. Protesting. Taking a knee. Lying down in the street for 8 minutes and 46 seconds to demonstrate.
BLM – Power to the people!
You have committed to showing up, speaking up and calling out silence as part of the violence.
You’ve risked your LIFE in a pandemic to demand justice and equality for Black people the same as it is an entitlement for Whites.
My adult daughter kept saying to me with a child-like innocence as she looked into the crowd rallying in front and behind us. “I’m so proud of us!”
She said it best.
So what has protesting accomplished?

What is the answer to overcoming racism in America?
One of the most significant issues facing social change in America is racism. We live in a society where people are judged by skin color, which creates an unfair hierarchy.
Isabel Wilkerson is the best at breaking down this system of white privilege, white supremacy and an American history of oppression in her book Caste.
Black folks have always wondered what the answer is to overcoming intentional and systematic racism and oppression.

There are no words for how I feel now that this is FINALLY happening. I still feel the anger from when Tyisha Miller was gunned down while asleep by the Riverside police, who faced no consequences. It’s long past time for this, but thank God change has come.
YES! Change is coming!!
I’m at a loss of words. Where do we go from here? How do we make sure this doesn’t keep happening?
Hi, Barrie! It can all be overwhelming, but we must keep the conversation and the movement going!!
Thank you Shaundra for the post . IT means alot to see so many people protesting for what needs to be changed.
You’re welcome and thank you for reading. These are things I never thought I’d see, and I’m so happy to be a part of this long overdue change.
So hopeful to see all of the protests and so sad that these killings by law enforcement keep happening.
It is indeed so sad. We must keep the movement and the message going to speak louder and drown out the racist narratives.
So many things going on recently.. glad to see so many in this empowering movement.
Exactly! Seeing so many people of all different races marching together is empowering!!
Change needed to happen decades ago..centuries ago. We are all humans and deserve to be treated with the same respect, love, kindness.
Say it, Mya!! Thank you!!
It’s a shame it took the death of George Floyd to bring this issue to the attention of our nation. It’s also a shame that our current administration has fueled the negativity and hasn’t even tried to support the issue. You show some great signs here – I hadn’t seen some of them.
Linda, I share your sentiments. With or without the their support, the marathon will continue. This time they’ve messed with the wrong generation!!
Heartbreaking and beautiful. It’s shameful that we’ve continued in our backwardness for so long, but it seems like there’s a glimmer of hope right now, that real change may be coming at last. ????
I so agree with you, Erin! Let’s keep the momentum and hope going!!
Thank you so much for these beautiful, colorful and meaningful options for my wallpaper. It sucks this is even an issue, by the year 2020, but unfortunately it is.
You’re welcome, DeAnna! And yes, who would’ve thought we would still be trying to overcome these same racists issues in 2020? Crazy, right!
lovely post
Thank you for reading!
tough issues
Yes, that’s why we must keep talking abut it.
I feel such despair today. Jacob Blake was shot in the back seven times in front of his children simply for trying to break up a fight and Kyle Rittenhouse walked around with a loaded gun, killed two people, and the police let him go on his merry way. Racism seems to be digging in its heels and spreading its poison more than ever.
Yes, today has been a tough one. Although we’re tired, we must keep the conversation, the demonstartaion and the demands for justice and equality ongoing. I appreciate you.
Oh absolutely. The fight, begun long ago, must be fought with new, unflagging energy and a belief that we CAN win. Because we HAVE to win. I appreciate you too. Thank you for being such a bright, energetic force for good.
…and you too!!
It is beyond horrible the things that have happen this year. But it was great to see people of all colors coming out to say enough is enough.
Yes- that was one of my favorite parts of the march!
The sad part is…it started as a wonderful idea and grew…then became the the outlet for those criminal types with their own agenda
