Happy last Friday of 2019!
I can hardly believe that 2019 is winding down, and we’re entering a new decade!
It’s got me thinking about how much has happened in the past 10 years…
Me in 2009 vs. 2019
In 2009, I was:
- A cheer mom turned retail store owner.
- Managing my niche store for cheerleaders, Cheer Factory.
- Working 362 days a year, with mall hours, 10 am-9 pm. (Christmas was more of a day off than a holiday!)
- Eating mall, food-court food 5-7 days a week (thank God for Chick-fil-A!).
- Paying mall rent upwards of $5,000 a month!
- Staying late after work sometimes to 1 am to complete customer orders (and I had school-age kids at home)!
- Catering to the sport that I love, unfortunately, often with customers that had very unreasonable and unrealistic expectations.
- Trying to figure out a way to stay profitable while paying employee salaries, business taxes, rising product costs and overhead expenses.
“Create a job with your hands and a business with your mind.”
Although I was working in my life’s purpose at that time, I had very little extra time to give, and very little control over external factors that affected my business (taxes, rent, mall hours, etc.).
There’s no way I could imagine my life still that way today.
In 2019, I am:
- Still living in beautiful VA Beach, now with bicoastal business in my favorite city, fabulous Las Vegas!
- Running a profitable business from the comfort of my own home office— or wherever I happen to be (on sand, land or at sea)!
- Impacting the lives of millions through my content and offerings.
- Leading events, speaking on stages, and sharing my ideas on video, podcasts, and more.
- Feeling deeply nurtured by an incredible community of entrepreneurs and friends.
- More excited than ever to be living my purpose— with more time than ever before to offer to my family, friends and fur babies. 😉
Now I don’t want to pretend things are perfect. I still experience challenges in my business and life.
At the same time, I feel tremendous gratitude for everything I have— circa 2009 and today!
I’m so excited about what’s in store for the next year— and decade!
We tend to overestimate what we can accomplish in a year and underestimate what we can create in a decade.
Looking back at the past 10 years, I truly feel like anything is possible.

It reminds me of a few of my favorite sayings–
- Innovation is rewarded; execution is worshipped.” –Eric Thomas
- “Everything you want also wants you.” –Jack Canfield
Now I would love to hear from you –
- What’s one of your proudest accomplishments from the past decade?
- Is there anything big (that may even feel impossible) that you want to create in the next 10 years?
